A Case of Compound Comminuted Fracture of the Left Humerus: Excision: Recovery

There was a medium-sized laceratad wound in front of the left, shoulder, through which the sharp-pointed broken end of the bone protruded for nearly two inches. The seat of the fracture was at the surgical neck, and the direction was oblique from above downwards and inwards. The upper end of the lower fragment was split across for nearly two inches, broken into two other smaller bits, and the periosteum entirely stripped off the bone for about the same length. The lower end of the tipper fragment was found rough and sharp edged, and impinging on the soft structures. The head of the humerus was safely lodged in the glenoid cavity. No rupture of the capsular ligament. The brachial was free and patent. There was also an extensive lacerated wound of the scalp, about six to seven inches long. The shape of the wound was rather
